Blockhouse Restaurant and Oyster Bar

Ok, I've read many mixed reviews on this restaurant. Our experience tonight and mind you this was a first visit, one word, amazing! I felt really good vibes from the clientele, very polite staff and great food. Our waiter Darren M was more than helpful and kind. Gave good suggestions and was a cool guy in general. Had the meat & three (Meatloaf) which I very much enjoyed. Ignore any negative reviews, I honestly had trepidation about trying this gem of a restaurant, so glad I gave them a try. Will return to try the Cuban sandwich next time.

No one seated us, so we picked our own table. Then we were asked to sit at another table, which we were fine with. Waitress started off good, but then focused all her attention on a 6 top instead of our 3 top, guessing she thought the big tip would be there. Food came late, also had to go to the bar to get drinks due to server focusedon the 6 top. Bartender asked if i was at a table, i said yes. She told me i would have to wait. After waiting while she attended to patrons that ordered after me i finally got 2 out of 3 drinks that i had ordered. Waitress informed us that bartender forgot the 3rd drink. Still no one bothered to check to see if we wanted the 3rd drink. Ordered filet steak medium, not grey. Food is decent, service is definitely poor... Maybe the employees had a bad night, not sure. But they should be consistent and considerate with each and every customer. (Side note) The six top used the F-BOMB every other word in their obnoxious conversations, and they probably stiffed our waitress on the tip.....

Locals recommended we try Blockhouse while visiting Greenville. Blockhouse isn't much to look at from the street, but was a FANTASTIC place to eat. Blockhouse doesn't pretend to be anything other than good old fashioned southern cooking. Oysters, steak, baked potatoes, and plenty of home cooked options. Our server, Nicole was spectacular. Loved it. Highly recommended.

I really enjoyed the lunch there, from the outside the restaurant is not so impressive, however, once inside the atmosphere is charming. Our waitress was knowledgeable about the menu and very helpful in making a choice. Prices where we’re above average for the type of food, but the taste was above average as well. Plenty of parking in the rear of restaurant and also had a nice patio area in the back as well. The restaurant had a full service bar and was well stocked. I didn’t try the oysters, however, I did see that someone had ordered some at the bar and looked very tasty, next time I’ll give them a try. Give them a try and let me know in comments how you liked them.

Based only on my experience there, I do not recommend the raw oysters. Perhaps it was a bad day for them, but the oysters were tiny and flat with zero flavor. The fried oysters, on the other hand, were absolutely fantastic. The best I've had outside of New Orleans. Service was great, and the atmosphere was lovely. I'll be back, but only for the fried ones.

Read all the reviews. Seems like customer service, quality of the food.....(AND YES,the oysters are a joke)!!! Problem here is that they cater to the regular drunks sitting by the bar. Except for an occasional visit from a local sports personality or a very Good Singer, it's a local bar and they charge you for pathetic food due to the location. 🙄 Wonder if I'll get a response from the owners? Look closely when they do respond to poor reviews, the same generic answer they give to every unsatisfactory review. Don't bother responding......not coming back and haven't been back for quite some time.
